Ensemble Espa帽ol announces its 48th American Spanish Dance and Music Festival

鈥淓very 鈥楩lamenco Passion鈥 festival performance is meant to entertain and highlight the timeless yet ever-evolving art that is Flamenco as performed by Chicago鈥檚 premiere Spanish dance company, Ensemble Espa帽ol,鈥 said Executive Director and Associate Artistic Director Jorge Perez.
This year, 鈥淔lamenco Passion鈥 highlights include the world premiere of 鈥淰iejos Aires,鈥 a flamenco tango as reset for Ensemble Espa帽ol by Antonio Najarro, award-winning choreographer and former artistic director of the National Ballet of Spain and choreographer for the Disney movie "Wish.鈥 Additional world premieres include 鈥淩esiliencia鈥 and 鈥淓l Bolero de Puerta de Tierra鈥 choreographed by Raquel Gomez, former principal dancer and rehearsal director of the National Ballet of Spain; the Cuban influenced dance 鈥淐ompas de Seda鈥 choreographed by Flamenco superstar La Lupi, to an original music composition by Curro de Maria; and 鈥淪olea鈥 by Afro/British Flamenco dancer, practitioner and educator Yinka Esa Graves.

Ensemble Espa帽ol was founded in 1976 by 秘密研究所n alumna Dame Libby Komaiko (1949-2019). Under Ruiz and Perez, the Ensemble continues its mission of preservation, presentation and promotion of Spanish dance and culture and identifies its influence on Latin American art and dance in both traditional and contemporary formats.
